Vintage Vogue

How rad are these Vogue covers from the 1950s? I'm always so fascinated by archived magazine covers. Just think how influential, imaginative, contemporary, and possibly controversial these covers were when published. Today we post half naked, and sometimes nude, women and men on magazines. Dressed androgynously, rail thin, sporting new hair styles, avant-garde make up, or minimalist styles, these covers dictate a culture's look. Although they don't feature the headline news of the day, fashion magazines offer us such a cool perspective of the time. It captures how people lived, because you live in clothes. I love the monochromatic purple, as well as the black and white. How dramatic! And isn't it interesting how often cars are featured?

  1. Ahh, I love these! I love the angle of the shot in the middle. Yeah, that's crazy how often cars are featured. I'm sure it's because of that new industrial age. Must have been such an exciting time when it was all happening! Then again, the same has happened for us in terms of technology. Now I want to look up all the Vogue covers!
